Here's a look inside Sarah Simmons's American South meets Park Avenue restaurant Birds & Bubbles, which opens tomorrow night in the old Grotto space. The menu features buttermilk fried chicken, either alone, with a split of champagne, or in the "winner winner chicken dinner," which comes with three sides plus a basket of biscuits, cornbread, and benne seed rolls. Rounding out the menu are non-chicken dishes like buttermilk braised pork shank and a vegetable curry. To drink there is, of course, bubbly, 28 varieties of it, though some of the bottles can ratchet up the tab by $250. The garden-level space has a somewhat subterranean feel, helped by lots of exposed brick walls, and for these last few weeks of warm weather, there's seating for 30 in a largely enclosed backyard patio.
