Charlemagne's reign in New York was short lived. The restaurant on the corner of Christopher and Greenwich Streets was open for only eight months before it quietly closed its large double doors. Now, a place called The Classic has taken up residence in the vintage-inspired space. A sign out front announces that the restaurant is now serving lunch and that it's "all organic," though that seems rather unlikely. The awning and windows also refer to the place varyingly as Classic's Cafe and Greenwich Coffee, none of which Eater has heard anything about. We'll have to wait and see if this place can endure longer than Charlemagne did. 697 Greenwich Street, West Village.
