Toloache and Yerba Buena owner Julian Medina opened Tacuba, a Day of the Dead-styled cantina in Astoria, on Tuesday. Here's a look around the restaurant, which is the first place outside of Manhattan in Medina's mini Mexican empire. Inside is a long bar, seating under giant flying skeleton sculptures, and a some black leather banquets. The menu lists nine taco options, all on handmade tortillas, including one with zucchini, corn, crispy hibiscus flowers, and pickled jalapeños, another with lobster, and a Oaxacan grasshopper taco for the more adventurous. Rounding out the menu is are nachos, elote, and several ceviches. The drink menu is heavy on the margaritas, tequilas, and mezcals.
