Katy Sparks Has Ditched Tavern on the Green

Just four months in, chef Katy Sparks has left Tavern on the Green. Following several reports from tipsters that Sparks had left her post at the sinking ship, today a representative confirms her departure. In a statement, owners Jim Caiola and David Salama announce that they have "amicably parted ways with chef Katy Sparks." A replacement has not yet been chosen. Sparks had a stellar reputation pre-Tavern, but since reopening in in late April, the iconic restaurant has struggled big time. Pete Wells and Adam Platt both panned it, as did Ryan Sutton who called the restaurant's mac 'n' cheese "one the worst things anyone can eat outside of Rikers." Some have blamed the restaurant's massive volume for its shortcomings, so perhaps Sparks will land somewhere smaller next. Update: Sparks tells the Times "it was time for me to return to my own work." She adds that she still thinks Tavern is "on a path to do fabulously well."
