Roaming Chef Jason Neroni Surprise Lands Back in NYC

New, 7 comments

Five years after he packed up and left New York for LA, it looks like the ever-unpredictable Jason Neroni (once of Porchetta and 10 Downing) has returned to stealthily open a pizzeria in Hell's Kitchen. After a little more hopping around, Neroni has been busy building up the accolades out west, first at Blanca, then at Osteria La Buca and most recently at the hit Superba Snack Bar. He even was named Eater LA's Chef of the Year in 2012. After Neroni left Superba back in June, there was some talk of plans to open B-Side Pizzeria, but no indication that it would be right here in Manhattan.

But Neroni has been Instagramming from New York City all month, hinting at pizza, and last night he announced that B-Side Pizzeria was open. Instagram doesn't name an exact address, but a liquor license application indicates that it's at 756 Ninth Avenue, where a now-closed sushi place once was.

Neroni is also supposed to be taking over Rose Cafe in Venice, California with Bill Chait some time in 2015, so no word on whether he's now a bi-coastal chef, or whether he's bailed on that project too. Stay tuned.
