Christopher Street Institution Boots & Saddle to Shutter

Boots & Saddle, a 40-year-old gay bar on Christopher Street, will close soon in the face of a major rent hike. The bar has been a mainstay of the Village gay bar scene since 1974, and regularly packs in crowds, but owner Rob Ziegler tells DNAinfo that the building's new landlord plans to up the rent by "thousands of dollars." Ziegler is now on the hunt for a new space, ideally one where he can start serving food, but so far no luck. No word yet on an exact closing date.
