Another Spot Moves as E. Houston Preps for Construction

Credit

The impending doom of Orchard Street and East Houston is fastly approaching. After the shutter of longtime Houston Street fixture Bereket and the tiny Philly's Cheese Steak shuttered in late June, a handful of remaining businesses on the block were given a three month reprieve, according to Bowery Boogie. That time is just about up and construction (destruction?) is looming. Now, it appears that Taqueria, a Mexican spot on Orchard, is applying for a liquor license on Saint Mark's Place, though no one at the restaurant would confirm the news. Several other businesses including Lobster Joint, Ray's Pizza, Empanada Mama, and Karaoke Boho were also offered buyouts. The only silver lining in all of this, is that Katz's isn't going anywhere and will be perfuming the new tenants in the building behind it for years to come.
