Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich have just signed the deal to take over the entire food and beverage program at Sean MacPherson's Maritime Hotel. That means La Bottega is done, and the heavy-hitting duo plan to replace it, as well as the lobby bar and the hotel's cabanas, with a new restaurant focused on the food of the "Italian coasts and islands." Not counting the Italian food megaplex that is Eataly, this will be Batali and Bastianich's first major restaurant project in New York City since they opened Del Posto back in 2006 (and Bastianich said he wouldn't open another New York project in 2011). No word yet on an exact timeline for this new restaurant, but expect it to open sometime in 2015. La Bottega is still open for the time being, and has not yet set an exact closing date. Stay tuned.
