A Brand New Tenant Takes the Place of Ill-Fated Bisutoro

Many months later, a new restaurant called Church Street Tavern is coming to the ill-fated space that formerly held Masaharu Morimoto's Tribeca Canvas and later his short-lived revamp Bisutoro. Although Patrick Fahey and the Los Americanos team promised they would take another go at the space, things apparently didn't pan out after Morimoto bailed on the restaurant. Instead, this project is from the virtually unknown Jon Behling.

Behling is also planning Bandits Roost, a speakeasy beneath the restaurant that will operate with a nightly password. Chef Paul Gerard, who helmed Exchange Alley, will work as a consultant upstairs overseeing the American menu which tentatively includes asparagus with tarragon vinaigrette, a "crab cocktail mingle" (crab legs served in a martini glass) and surf and turf with smoked pork belly and clams. Both spaces are expected to open by late September.
