Alex Raij and Eder Montero's planned Grand Street restaurant was unanimously approved for a liquor license last night by Community Board 3. The pair applied for the old Shalom Chai Pizzeria space near Seward Park under the name Bonhomie LLC. According to the application, their plan is for a restaurant with under 64 seats, with a backyard garden added somewhere down the line.
At last report, Raij and Montero hadn't actually signed a lease for the space, but it does look like things are moving forward. Still no word on the specific focus of the restaurant, but it will definitely be Spanish, and likely will complement the couple's excellent trio of restaurants, Txikito, El Quinto Pino, and La Vara.
Meanwhile, Wassail, a vegetarian cider spot from the Queens Kickshaw team was also approved for the old Todd's Mill space. The team has worked hard to win the approval of residents in the notoriously over-saturated neighborhood, reports to Bowery Boogie.
