The former reBar space may have a new tenant. Now that the building that houses the 44-year-old Brooklyn Heights Cinema (which claims to be the oldest independently run movie theater in New York) has been sold, owner Kenn Lowy is eyeing the beleaguered Dumbo event space for an early fall move in. "Nothing's been signed yet, but that's what I'm hoping will happen," he tells the Daily News.
If it does, hopefully he'll bring his concession stand, which makes egg creams and cappuccinos, with him. The space has been unoccupied since reBar came to an unfortunate end in May when owner Jason Stevens closed the venue abruptly, stiffing more than 70 couples of their wedding deposits. He's now serving a 3 to 10 year sentence for tax fraud.
