Smillie and Starr to Open Upland by October

More details are emerging about chef Justin Smillie's new restaurant with Stephen Starr. When Smillie left his position at Il Buco Alimentari back in June, not much was known about his new venture with the mega-restaurateur besides the fact that it would be a "Mediterranean-style farm-to-table" place in the old Manzanilla space. But now the restaurant has a name, and even some menu items. It's called Upland (after the town in California where Smillie was born) and will serve dishes like sprouted chickpea croquettes and coffee-soaked lamb belly with okra, tomatoes, and beans. The restaurant should open some time in October.
