Alex Raij and Eder Montero, the chef/restaurateur couple behind the ever-popular Txikito, El Quinto Pino, and La Vara, are currently looking to open a fourth restaurant on the Lower East Side. The Lo-Down reports that the duo will appear before Community Board 3 tonight, seeking a full liquor license for the Grand Street space that formerly held Shalom Chai Pizza, one of the neighborhood's last remaining kosher restaurants, which closed for good in June.
Raij emphasizes that they have not yet signed a lease on the space, but if all goes as planned, the new restaurant will serve some variety of Spanish food, perhaps one not yet covered but the couple's current trio of excellent Spanish restaurants. Stay tuned.
