It looks like Boris Lidukhover, the owner of East Village favorite Sushi Dojo is planning to open a restaurant called Dojo Izakaya in the space that formerly held Cafe Rakka on Avenue B. Chef David Bouhadana, a Morimoto alum whose work at Sushi Dojo has been well-received by the critics, is also listed at the helm of this new spot. The Community Board paperwork shows a chef's counter and seating for 19, along with a liquor license application. The small hand-written menu includes hot and cold soba, yakitori and a handful of more unusual dishes like monk fish liver, grilled fish collar, and cod fish sperm fried in tempura batter. Lidukhover's name also recently appeared on a liquor license application for a space on Chambers Street in Tribeca. No word yet on what that would be, but perhaps this is the start of a Dojo empire.
Eater has reached out to the Dojo team for details, more as it becomes available.
