After a six month shutter, thorough renovation, and a slight name change, Kurt Gutenbrunner's Upholstery Store will reopen on August 7, as Upholstery Store: Food and Wine, reports the New York Post. The revamped space, which is just around the corner from Wallsé, has seating for 48 and is meant to look like Vienna's Loos American Bar with a lacquered ceiling, banquettes, and marble tables (the famed bar was also the design inspiration for The Third Man over on Avenue C). The menu will feature small plates like oysters in cold cucumber soup and beef gelée by Matthew Neele, who previously staged with Rene Redzepi at Noma. Co-owner and wine director Leo Schneemann will oversee the moderately priced wine menu.
Update: The new space will open mid-August, not August 7.
