With a new West Village outpost already underway, the popular East Village dessert bar ChikaLicious is now planning a major expansion, first to Brooklyn and then across the country. The bakery tells Bedford +Bowery it will open an outpost in a Williamsburg hotel in November 2015, though no word yet on which hotel that might be. In the meantime, the West Village location (in the old Cafe Henri space) is set to open October 1 of this year and be a model for the bakery's expansion.
The new place will be a mash-up of Chika Tillman's high-end dessert tasting counter and her more casual Dessert Club ChikaLicious across the street, with a 12 seat bar plus a pastry counter and cafe seating. Co-owner Don Tillman hopes that that will serve as "the origin of the national rollout of ChikaLicious," with many more outposts to come across the country. The 11-year-old dessert bar already has outposts abroad, in Dubai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and several other Asian cities.
