Status: Opening Tonight.
Tonight Jonathan Morr of BondSt and Eugene Morimoto open Cherry Izakaya, the Williamsburg offshoot of their swanky French-Japanese spot Cherry in the Dream Downtown hotel. The move might come as a surprise to some, since as DNAinfo points out, just last year Morr told Paper that he didn't "have a visa to go to Brooklyn." But this place is meant to be more casual than its Manhattan counterpart, with a menu that's a broad mix of sushi options, large plate Japanese dishes like soy chicken and more traditional izakaya favorites including several varieties of gyoza and skewers like the traditional mixed chicken grill with liver, heart, skin, gizzard, wing, and thigh.
The drinks menu was put together by Warren Hode, who will be pairing shochu with housemade sodas in flavors like tangerine jasmine and celery honeydew. Starting tonight, the restaurant is open for dinner throughout the week with extra hours tacked on Thursday through Saturday for late night snacking and drinks. The team will add a Japanese inflected brunch menu and delivery in about a month. Stay tuned for photos of the space (and its ultra cute wallpaper) next week.
