Status: Opening Tonight.

Crimson & Rye, Charlie Palmer's latest New York project, opens tonight in the lobby of the Lipstick Building. Inside is a big circular bar, and plenty of plump leather chairs and couches to sit in. The long bar menu, crafted by Luis Mendez, formerly of Mercer Kitchen, boasts 21 varieties of rye and 29 bourbons, along with numerous cocktails and two house sodas: strawberry cream and tamarindo. There are also 10 wines by the glass, half of which are sparkling.

For now there are only eight cocktails on the menu, but expect that to expand to over 20 as the staff gets into the swing of things. Food options include several "bites" like fish and pork tacos, bruschetta, and sliders. Several salads including one cheekily dubbed "obligatory Ceasar," raw bar options, as well as cheese and salume boards are also on offer. For this week, it's evening service only. But the space will open for lunch starting next Monday. Take another look at the menu below, and please send any and all reports our way.
