John McDonald Takes Over Food & Bev at Sixty Soho

New, 1 comment

As rumored, downtown heavy-hitter John McDonald and his team will indeed be taking over all the food and beverage operations at Jason Pomeranc's Sixty Soho hotel (formerly Sixty Thompson). A rep confirms that McDonald is in the process of finding a chef for an Italian restaurant in the space that currently houses Kittichai, and he'll also be creating new projects in the outdoor rooftop area that is now home to A60, and the portion of the lobby where Thom Bar sits. No word yet on when A60 and Kittichai will shutter for the big overhaul, but the lobby bar is already closed.

Martin Brudinksy Design Studio (Le Caprice, Soho House) is handling the design work for the new restaurant and bars in the hotel. Right before this deal was inked, McDonald welcomed Steven Eckler — a former managing partner at The Red Cat and The Harrison — into his restaurant group. Eckler will be working as a partner on these new projects, and he'll be involved with all of the other restaurants in McDonald's group.

Later this year, McDonald and partner in crime Josh Capon will add a Bowery Steakhouse to their collection of downtown hot spots. An opening date for the new restaurant in the Sixty Soho has not been announced yet.
