The New York outpost of Ilan Hall's LA restaurant The Gorbals is slated to open next Tuesday at Urban Outfitter's Williamsburg concept store Space Ninety 8. Hall dishes up some details over at the UO blog, saying he plans to keep the menu very seasonal and to use some less common ingredients like bluefish and skate cheek. He explains, "I like to make food that's a little bit cheeky, that doesn't take itself too seriously, but at the end of the day is delicious." Along those lines, he will bring a few of his signature items from the restaurant's Los Angeles location including his infamous bacon-wrapped matzo balls. He has also promised such items as a large-format schnitzel "with the hooves still on." The restaurant will also operate the rooftop bar above the store, which sports cozy cabanas.
