David Burke is forming a new hospitality group called Chew on This Enterprises with real estate developer Musa Tadros. Crain's reports that Burke and his partner want to open new restaurants in Chicago, New York, and other cities. The news comes less than a month after Burke stepped away from the day-to-day operations of the David Burke Group, the company that operates David Burke Townhouse, David Burke Fishtail, David Burke Kitchen, and the recently opened David Burke Fabrick.
David Burke Group's holding company, Watershed Ventures, is split between Burke and a silent investor. The chef/restaurateur has not fully worked out the details of his departure from the company that he co-founded. Burke tells Crain's: "We haven't discussed what the options are for my 50% stake...The options are to buy out my stake or to stay in. This is very fresh." It's unclear if the names of the Burke Group restaurants will change now, but the chef notes: "It's still in my interest to support it."
