Williamsburg is about to lose one of its oldest hipster hangouts. Gothamist reports that Verb Cafe on Bedford Avenue is slated to close at the end of the month. The shop has been in business since 1999, and the owners haven't changed the space, layout, or menu very much over the last 15 years. An employee told Gothamist: "The landlord wants us to pay 70% more rent than what we're paying." Although Verb was never a huge player in the New York coffee world, it always served some of the city's finest iced coffee.
No word yet on whether the Verb team plans to relocate, or if the shop is just closing for good. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
