East Village Cocktail Den Elsa Is Closing Soon

New, 1 comment

Elsa, the charming Alphabet City cocktail den, is closing soon. A tipster reports that there is a sign in the bar alerting customers to the news, saying that Elsa is closing at the end of the month but the owners plan on relocating to a new location. However, Elsa's bartenders are apparently telling patrons that the bar is not relocating at all and will simply be shutting its doors. An employee at the bar tells Eater that the landlord refused to renew the lease, because he wants to "open his own place," although its not clear what that will be. The owners have been looking for a new space, but no luck so far. The tiny bar, which opened in late 2008, was modeled after a fashion designer's workroom, and started off selling bespoke men's suits along with cocktails. The owners also own and operate Ramona, a much larger bar in Greenpoint that opened earlier this year and is doing a brisk business.
