Here's a look around Root & Bone, the new Alphabet City restaurant from Southern chefs/former Top Cheftestapants Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth. The pair come to New York from Miami hot spot Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, which has a reputation for excellent fried chicken, among other things. McInnis and Booth are serving a different fried chicken here (it's brined in sweet tea, and served with Tabasco honey), alongside dishes like shrimp and grits, short rib meatloaf, and blue crab Waldorf salad. The space has a farmhouse look, with lots of flowers, bones, and antique china for decor, and also includes an adjacent takeout counter called The Little Root Market, which offers salads, sandwiches, and buckets of chicken, plus pie, cake, and soft serve to go. Root & Bone opens Monday, serving the lunch menu all day, and will start serving the full dinner menu the following week.
