On July 7, Gabe Stulman and Mehdi Brunet-Benkritly will close their year-and-a-half-old non-traditional Izakaya Chez Sardine for a revamp. Two weeks later, it will re-open as Bar Sardine, a more casual operation with a new menu and an emphasis on cocktails.
Team Little Wisco is pitching this as a "food-focused neighborhood bar" that will be "more casual and accessible." The new space will have a much larger bar area, and chef Brunet-Benkritly plans to move away from Asian cuisine. Although most of the critics dug the space and the overall vibe of the original Chez Sardine, the menu was polarizing and quite a bit stranger than anything offered at Stulman's other restaurants. The team plans to reopen the week of July 21.
