Soho Old-Timer Broome Street Bar to Shutter

Photo: Foursquare/michel p.

The space that houses Bob & Kenn's Broome Street Bar, a decades-old Soho institution, has just been sold to Jon Krasner, who owns the Harlow in Midtown and in Sag Harbor. Rumors of the bar's impending closure have been floating around since March, when owner Kenn Reisdorff died at the age of 92. At the time Jeremiah Moss heard that Reisdorff's daughter did not want take over the bar, which her father had run since 1972. The space itself has housed a bar of some sort since the 1850s, and is located in what may be the oldest building in Soho. According to the Post, Krasner plans to gut renovate the bar and, in the words of one source, "create a fabulous new Soho restaurant and bar in the spirit of the Soho institution." But whatever it is, chances are good the new place won't serve hamburgers in pita bread. No word yet on when, exactly, the Broome Street Bar will shutter
