The DOH has temporarily shuttered the Union Square location of organic, macrobiotic mini-chain Souen. According to the DOH site, the restaurant racked up 72 violation points for, among other things, holding both hot and cold food at the wrong temperatures; there was also evidence of rodent infestation. The restaurant scored a nine, low enough to earn an A grade, during the last inspection in November 2013. The chain, which dates back to 1971, has two additional locations in the East Village and Soho, both remain open and currently hold A grades.
