Mattos & Carter's Estela Replaces Donguri on the Eater 38

It's extremely rare for a restaurant to be removed from the Eater 38 because it closes down. But that's what's happening today with Donguri on the Upper East Side. It may reopen soon with a new owner a new chef, but it will not be added back to the map — it's starting from square one, just like any new restaurant.

Filling that vacant slot in this emergency Eater 38 update is Estela, the Houston Street charmer from Thomas Carter and Ignacio Mattos. It's about 85 blocks south and the food is very different from Donguri, but Estela is an establishment that continues to win over diners and critics alike one year into its lifespan.
