EMM Group Pulls Plug On La Cenita Steak After 7 Weeks

New, 5 comments

Some very surprising news, as the EMM Group has pulled the plug on La Cenita Steak, a little less than two months after they revamped La Cenita, their Mexican restaurant with Akhtar Nawab. EMM partner Eugene Remm tells Eater:

After a lot of thought we have decided to close La Cenita Steak and convert the space to an events and catering facility. Mark [Birnbaum] and I continuously work to come up with interesting food concepts and, after 5 years of EMM restaurants, this is the first one that simply didn't take.

Remm continues:

Its a tough business that always comes with a certain degree of risk. This experience has really reminded us that for every success there will be some obstacles and without these challenges, there can be no growth. We have certainly grown a lot from this experience and, on a positive note, have been able to offer the majority of the staff positions at our existing properties. We look forward to the future as we continue to create new concepts that our guests will to enjoy for years to come.
This is the third restaurant the group has tried to pull off in the space that hasn't caught on (including Abe & Arthur's), but they still operate Catch, The General, and Lexington Brass, along with their nightclubs Finale, The Brickwood, and Finale East.
