Olympic Restaurant, the classic greasy spoon that has occupied the corner of Essex and Delancey Streets for 35 years is not much longer for this world. Jeremiah Moss reports that the diner will be demolished soon to make way for Essex Crossing, a massive new development that will house, among other things, condos, restaurants, a movie theater, and an Andy Warhol museum. The owners, who are currently on a month-to-month lease, aren't sure exactly when Olympic will close, but guess that it might be as early as July or August. Olympic may not be particularly known for its food, but when it's gone, there will be one less old-school lunch counter in New York.
