This week the East Village will get yet another new ice cream shop, this one from Goat Town's Nick Morgenstern. According to the Robs, the eponymous Morgenstern's will serve soda fountain classics, including a banana split with scoops of five different kinds of vanilla ice cream. An employee at the shop tells Eater it's slated to open Friday.
There are also some other newcomers to look out for in the Robs' summer openings roundup. In Prospect Heights the team behind 606 R&D has just opened a takeout shop next door. It sells coffee, pastries, sandwiches and prepared foods, plus meat, cheese, and pantry items. Meanwhile, beer-brewing expert Stef Ferrari is opening a "micro creamery" called Hay Rosie in Carroll Gardens, where she'll make ice cream in flavors like Sriracha popcorn and salted lemon cream, and serve the public only on weekends.
In Williamsburg, Smorgasburg vets BeeHive Oven are opening a brick and mortar for their Southern-style food, and plan to start serving biscuits, fried chicken, and pimento cheese by Wednesday. Another Smorgasburg vendor, the Lumpia Shack, just opened its own brick and mortar, the Lumpia Shack and Snackbar, in the West Village last week, where it serves lumpia and other Filipino fare for takeout.
