Status: Opens Tonight.
The new Italian restaurant in the old Peels space from hit-makers Andrew Carmellini, Luke Ostrom, and Josh Pickard is slated to open at 5:30 p.m. tonight. For this new restaurant, the Noho Power Trio made Sal Lamboglia the co-chef/partner. Mr. Lamboglia has worked with Carmellini since his A Voce days, and he's helped open every single one of Noho Hospitality Group's restaurants. The menu from Carmellini and Lamboglia includes 12 pastas priced between $14 and $19, plus antipasti, "piccolini" plates, a $14 Italian beef sandwich, and rotating daily specials. It looks like they're going for a more affordable, casual version of Locanda Verde, with extra emphasis on fresh pasta.
Taavo Somer, the restaurateur who previously operated Peels, completely redesigned the space. The paper is still currently up in the windows, because the team is still putting the final touches on the dining room. But stay tuned for a full look around the space later this week. Reservations are only accepted for groups of six or more.
