Van Leeuwen Opens Pop-Up in Former Whirlybird Space

Photo: Twitter/@VLAIC

The space that once held one of Brooklyn's only sources for Austin-style tacos, Whirlybird, is now home to a Van Leeuwen ice cream shop pop-up. The new spot, which is only open through the summer, serves all of Van Leeuwen's usual simple flavors, plus coffee, pastries, and cold-pressed juice. There's also a new menu of ice cream sundaes, which range from a classic banana split to a vegan sundae complete with vegan chocolate sauce.

Back when Whirlybird shuttered, there were rumors that the space would become a sandwich shop. No word on whether that will still be in the cards once the pop-up winds down in the fall.
