Russ & Daughters Cafe, a Sit-Down Version of an Icon

[All photos by Daniel Krieger]

Here's look around the new Russ & Daughters Cafe, which opened last week on Orchard Street. The all-day restaurant is just a few blocks from the 100-year-old appetizing store, and serves a menu that's based around the same smoked fish, pickled herring, and caviar that the store is renowned for. Owners Niki Federman and Josh Tupper, both fourth generation members of the Russ family, have included plenty of reminders of iconic shop in the new space, from the photos on the wall, to the tiles on the floor, to the glowing signs behind the bar. The biggest difference is that now there are seats, tables, and a full bar.
