Maialino Team to Open Pizzeria; Smillie & Starr Team Up

The new Italian restaurant in the King & Grove hotel from Danny Meyer, Nick Anderer, and Terry Coughlin will be a pizzeria called Marta. Flo Fab reports that this new restaurant will have a wood-fired grill and two wood-burning pizzas ovens, and the menu will include antipasti and family-style dishes. It's slated to open in August.

Ms. Fabricant also drops the monster news that Il Buco Alimentari's chef Justin Smillie is partnering with big box king Stephen Starr for a new "Mediterranean-style farm-to-table restaurant" in the old Manzanilla space. No word yet on what it will be called, but that restaurant is slated to open in the fall. Smillie will be in the kitchen of Alimentari till the middle of June.

A few more tidbits of news: Akhtar Nawab, formerly of La Cenita Steak and La Esquina, will head up a taqueria in the Gotham West Market space that previously housed Little Chef, and former Nuela chef Adam Schop will be the chef at both Miss Lily's and its spinoff Miss Lily's 7A Cafe.
