Rumors about new restaurants from Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield pop up almost every week. And the latest one involves the dynamic duo planning an all-day "cafe-bar" at 151 Avenue A, the space that formerly housed San Loco. EV Grieve hears that the new restaurant would open early for breakfast, and it would "curate a specific coffee, wine, and cocktail program." Sounds like a fun idea. The newest Community Board 3 agenda lists a "to be determined" liquor license application at that space.
Over the last few years, Friedman and Bloomfield have scoped out several spaces around the city for projects that never came to fruition. They wanted to open a sherry-focused wine bar on Bleecker Street two years ago, but dropped the plans after encountering some resistance from the Community Board 2. Back in 2011, they also applied for a liquor license in the old Oliva space at 161 Houston Street. And in 2010, they started to develop a new restaurant on West 11th Street, but those plans got tossed on the fire too.
Eater has reached out to The Spotted Pig team for more details about the Avenue A space.
