Blumenthal Deterred From NYC Projects by Unions

New, 8 comments

Famed British chef Heston Blumenthal, of the Michelin-starred Fat Duck and Dinner, probably won't be opening a New York restaurant any time soon. Discussing his new Melbourne expansion plans, Blumenthal says he also "had a really serious look at New York," but ultimately decided against it. The chef has long toyed with the idea of opening a restaurant here, but now he tells Reuters that the unions make costs "completely prohibitive." Noting that both Alain Ducasse and Joel Robuchon left NYC because of the unions, he says he's been advised not to "touch it with a barge pole."
