Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske, the duo behind the white hot $55 tasting menu restaurant Contra, have set their sights on a new, more casual restaurant at 94 Allen Street. They're teaming up with a third partner, Thomas Martin, on the project, and last night they received initial approval for a full liquor license for the space from the Community Board 3.
According to last night's proposal, the new spot would be a more "accessible" restaurant, meant in part to take up some of the overflow from Contra. Von Hauske tells Eater that it would not, as first reported, be a tapas bar, and that "at the moment it's all up in the air." Although not listed on the liquor license application last night, von Hauske says he and Stone would be "100 percent involved if it were to happen." More details as they become available.
Also at last night's CB3 meeting, Max Fish got unanimous approval for a full liquor license at 120 Orchard Street, while the new owners of El Sombrero got approval for their revamp of the original.
