Manatus, a no-frills Greek diner on a trendy stretch of Bleecker Street, closed for good after service last night. An employee at the restaurant tells Eater that there are no plans to relocate at this time, and that the restaurant closed because of a rent hike — the landlord wanted $50,000 a month. Jeremiah Moss notes: "Manatus has been in business since the mid-1980s, catering to the local LGBT clientele, and it is the last affordable, down-to-earth place to eat in that hyper-gentrified plastic part of town." Rumor has it that a Calvin Klein store will be moving into this space.
