Little Chef in Gotham West Market Has Closed

Little Chef, the Gotham West Market outpost of Caroline Fidanza's beloved Williamsburg sandwich shop Saltie has shuttered. Food writer Bao Ong tweets a photo of the empty counter space this morning, and the shop has been removed from the list of vendors on Gotham West Market's website. An employee at Saltie, which is still going strong, confirms that Little Chef closed at the beginning of this month, adding only that the team has decided to "stick to Brooklyn for now."

Little Chef, which expanded on Saltie's menu with more soups, salads, and fresh juices, earned strong praise from Pete Wells in his two star review of Gotham West Market. No word yet on what will occupy that space next, but if the neighboring counters are any indication, it's likely to be another heavy hitter.
UPDATE: A rep for Gotham West Market sends word: "Caroline and Gotham West Market have mutually decided to close Little Chef, making way for a new, exciting food destination within the Market that we will soon announce."
