A reader sends word that Dominique Ansel Bakery has just been shut down by the Department of Health. The inspection report isn't available online yet, but the closure comes only a day after Gothamist posted footage of a mouse scurrying out from under a rack full of pastries, so it can only be assumed that the two things are related.
The bakery has maintained a solid "A" grade up until now, although the most recent graded inspection from October of last year does cite violation for "evidence of live mice" and for the kitchen not being "vermin proof." Eater has reached out to the Ansel team for comment, but in the meantime, it's best to cancel those plans to get up at the crack of dawn to wait in the Cronut line tomorrow.
