Calliope Closes; Will Reopen as Contrada This Weekend

Calliope on East Fourth Street has closed after less than two years in business. The restaurant got some good reviews when it opened and food writers and bloggers always loved the place, but it never attained true hot spot status — the dining room was frequently empty during prime time. Chef/partners Ginevra Iverson and Eric Korsh left the restaurant earlier this year. But the remaining owners are not done with the space yet.

A message on the Calliope website reads:

The bad news first: Calliope has closed. It's sad to see something that meant so much to all of us and to you come to its end... but we're putting together a new project right here in the same space. That's the good news... starting this weekend, you can come into dinner at Contrada! Full details coming soon!

No word yet on what type of food Contrada will serve, but it looks like some work is being done on the space to prepare for the reopening this weekend.
