The Gander, Jesse Schenker's New Flatiron Restaurant

Here's a look around The Gander, chef Jesse Schenker's casual follow-up to Recette. Unlike his first restaurant, which offers fine dining-style small plates, the menu at the new place is broken down into traditional appetizers and entrees. The menu includes crispy calamari, an iceberg wedge, fluke crudo, four types of pasta, rotisserie chicken, a dry-aged steak, and roasted branzino. Starters are priced between $12 and $16, and most entrees are in the mid 20s. At Recette, the chef serves elegantly composed dishes made with luxury ingredients, so it will be interesting to see how he executes a menu of New American crowd-pleasers. Rick Pitcher, formerly of Gotham Bar and Grill, is the wine director, and Recette's Christina Lee is the pastry chef.
