Starr Wants More NYC Restaurants; Serpico Is a Possibility

New, 1 comment

Stephen Starr just expanded his New York portfolio with the opening of El Vez, but he's not done opening restaurants in this city yet. Later this year, the restaurateur will debut a Bowery steakhouse project with Joe Carroll, and Starr tells Grub Street that he's also contemplating a New York outpost of Serpico, the Philly restaurant he opened with former Momofuku Ko chef Peter Serpico last year. Starr notes: "Peter [Serpico] and I have talked — Peter wants to open here in New York, so I'm looking for a place for him, too." Starr is also currently looking at a space in the Financial District, and he's interested in Noho and the Village.

The Starr Man also furthers the rumor that his colleague Keith McNally is opening a restaurant inside the Temple Court building at 5 Beekman St., and he implies that one Mr. Tom Colicchio is planning a restaurant inside that space as well. Starr remarks: "You have that big hotel in the Wall Street area opening with Keith McNally and Tom Colicchio. It's happening." The McNally rumor was first whispered by Eater sources last August, but the Colicchio gossip is brand new.
