The opening of monster Battery Park City food & retail complex Brookfield Place is slated for early next month. The fast casual restaurants in the Hudson Eats part of the facility will be the first to make their debut, with the restaurants from Parm and Jose Garces following later this year or early next year. And at the end of 2014, Peter Poulakakos and Paul Lamas will launch their massive, Eataly-esque French food market Le District at Brookfield.
Today, Steve Cuozzo reports that the market will have four "mini districts," including a cafe area, a section with seafood and charcuterie, and two sit down restaurants. Poulakakos and Lamas tapped Barcelona-born chef Jordi Vallès to manage Le District. According to his bio on Star Chefs, Vallès worked with both Mari Arzak and Ferrán Adria before cooking at various Ritz-Carlton restaurants. Apparently, the partners are spending over $15 million on the build-out of the market alone. Poulakakos describes Le District as "a new and improved way of sharing food and beverages, in a fun experiential way as opposed to just sitting in a restaurant."
If everything goes according to plan, it should open in stages starting March 2015.
UPDATE: A rep sends word that the first part of Le District will open this fall, and it will be completely open by March 2015.
