The owners of popular Crown Heights restaurant Mayfield are now planning a more casual Mexican restaurant in Bed-Stuy. Last week Jacques Belanger and Lev Gewirtzman got initial approval from Community Board 3 for a liquor license for the new spot, which will have a bar inside and a taco truck in the backyard. The truck will serve various tacos, tortas, and specials like pozole and roasted pig, and the team is also planning to grow a garden and host movie nights for kids in the backyard.
No word on a name or an opening date yet, but there will be a chance to check out Gewirtzman's taco skills when Mayfield throws a pig roast and taco party next month to raise money for the MS Society.
