Beloved Denver-based burger joint SmashBurger just opened its first Manhattan outpost right next to the Empire State Building yesterday. The chain, which is known for burgers that have been smashed thin and seared on a griddle, already has one New York outpost in Fort Greene, but Manhattan has been lacking until now.
Burger topping range from bacon and cheddar, to spinach, cucumber, and goat cheese, and there are also chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, and salads on the menu, plus fries and shakes. Nick Solares was a fan of the seared patty when he tried it in New Jersey back in 2010, describing the finished product as a "highly laudable cheeseburger."
