Additional details are leaking to the public about the return of Max Fish to the Lower East Side. Owner Ulli Rimkus is hoping that this version of the bar, which was forced to give up its original location after 24 years in business to make way for a waffle and fried chicken restaurant, will be way more than cheap beers and local art work.
According to plans filed with Community Board 3, the new Max Fish will operate on two floors of the old Orchard Bar space, with room for over 250 people, a mix of tables and couches, and a plan to host live performances one time per week. But that's not all. If approved, Max Fish will now be offering food, with a menu that is very ambitious for a place that has a reputation for being a bar.
Eater's new team of critics is ready to review this culinary wonderland.
