City Grit's annual Next Big Thing dinner series, which highlights free agent chefs, will focus on three up-and-coming women this year. Sara Kramer, who earned plenty of praise (and an Eater Award) for her work at Glasserie before parting ways with the restaurant in February, is first up on April 30 and May 1. She and her former sous chef, Sarah Hymanson, will serve a preview of the dishes they're currently working on for a new mystery project of their own, which should open some time this year. No details yet on the where or what she will open, but Ms. Kramer might offer some hints at the meal.
Then on May 15 and 16, Claire Handleman, a vet of Jean-Georges, Eleven Madison Park and Del Posto, will cook a menu based on her in-the-works Southeast Asian restaurant. And finally, on May 21 and 22, Shanna Pacifico, who recently left her position at the helm of Back Forty West, will preview an upcoming "market driven restaurant," which, City Grit says, will feature plenty of nose-to-tail cooking. No word yet on where that restaurant will be, either.
