Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:
1) A Taste of Seventh
When: Today and Tomorrow
Where: East Seventh Street
What: This is the annual celebration of one of the most restaurant dense blocks in the city. Participants include Luke's Lobster who's hosting, Caracas Arepa Bar, Porchetta, Big Gay Ice Cream and many more (seven in all). Tickets are $25 a pop and include a sample from each of the vendors.
2) Live Music at Hillside
When: Tonight, 7:00 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Hillside
What: Vinegar Hill House's event space, Hillside, is hosting a live music night featuring Romanian cellist Mihai Marica and some bites from the newly appointed chef Mike Poiarkoff. Tickets are $60 and include the food and a couple of drinks.
3) Food Films For Kids
When: Today, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: The MoMA
What: This weekend's a good time to do something artsy and food related with kids. The MoMA's putting on a series of food centric short films aimed at children. There will be five animated shorts in all, pre-dating 1990. Most of the offerings are from the US along with a couple of Canadian clips. Admission is free, but tickets to the screening are given on a first come first serve basis. 4) Ladies of American Distilleries
When: Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: Union Square Wines & Spirits
What: This tasting, hosted by the Ladies of American Distilleries and Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails, celebrates all that is female and boozy. The featured spirits include a dizzying array, including but not limited to Black Dirt Apple Brandy, Chief Gowanus New-Netherland Gin, Dorothy Parker American Gin, Hillrock Solera Bourbon and Laird's Applejack. Representatives from these distilleries will be on hand to answer questions and give samples of spirits and cocktails.
5) Sunday Supper
When: Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Toshi's Living Room at the Flatiron Hotel
What: Check out this pop-up Sunday supper at the Flatiron Hotel. Chefs Sirona Nixon and Jen Scher will be cooking and the event will be hosted by Sinead O'Rourke. The dinner is a tasting menu featuring updated comfort foods. Tickets cost $100.
